Deng Xiaoping takes over
- Tried to assure Taiwanese that if they rejoined China they would still have autonomy
- Doesn’t happen but trade increases between the two
- 1987 Taiwan lifts its ban on travel to the mainland
- Also pushed for reunification of Hong Kong (Xianggang)
- This happens in 1997 and it becomes a Special Administrative Region (SAR)
If the one child policy was not brought in at the time Deng enforced the law, would China be unlivable now-a-days with little living space?

When Deng took Chairman of China, he helped China start its new look, to help it transform into what we know how China is today. Lifting the ban on travel to Taiwan, and creating special economic zones for economic growth and jobs to lift the poverty.
