- many think this period of the deterioration for USSR due to party "apparatchiks" left over from the Stalin regime wanted to return to the old status quo
- made famous the Brezhnev Doctrine
- "It was the right and duty of fraternal socialist countries to intervene in each others affairs when socialism was threatened."
- he makes this while intervening Czechoslovakia in 1968.

Summary: Brezhnev came into Soviet Union power in 1964 - 82 where many think that he wanted to go back to the way Stalin lead things. Brezhnev invaded Czechoslovakia and created the Brezhnev Doctrine where the use of Warsaw Pact forces to intervene in any Eastern Bloc nation which was seen to compromise communist rule and Soviet domination.
